About the Journal

Journal of Scientometric Research (J. Scientometric Res.) is an internationally targeted official publication of Phcog.Net. It publishes peer reviewed articles online in an open access format. The journal will encourage both empirical and theoretical contributions that advance scientometric research and would also reach out to scholars of Science and Technology Studies (STS), sociology, economics and any other field who use scientometric data as the ‘object of investigation’ or apply scientometric analysis in policy or innovation studies. The journal thus seeks to publish articles in all the different domains of scientometrics including patent studies (techometrics) and web-based studies (webometrics).

The Editorial Policy

Manuscripts are accepted with the understanding that the authors have not violated any ethical practice followed in preparation and publication of scientific manuscripts. The list practices that are considered unethical are given in the journal website ( Author/s is/are responsible for all the statements made in their work and should be willing to defend them publicly, if challenged. Authors should prepare their manuscripts submitted to the journal exactly according to the instructions given. Manuscripts and figures are not returned to the authors, not even upon rejection of the paper.

Submission Requirements

Covering Letter

Disclose all possible conflicts of interest (e.g. funding sources for consultancies or studies of products). Full contact details with postal address(es), phone numbers (mobile & landline) and email IDs (primary & secondary) of the corresponding author must be clearly mentioned. A list of potential reviewers (not exceeding 5) with their emails IDs and preferably phone numbers and should be included. The suggested reviewers must be working in the same area dealt with in the manuscript. Whether to use their services or not is the discretion of the chief editor.

Manuscripts published in JSCIRES become the sole property of the ScibiolMed. The corresponding author, on behalf of all authors, signs a copyright transfer form at the time of submission of the manuscript. Copyright Form can be downloaded from

Research articles

The research articles are limited to 5000 words. Abstract should be structured and limited to 200 words. Keywords (maximum six in numbers) are to be given which properly specify the contribution.

Review articles

Reviews covering topics of current interest are welcome and encouraged. Review articles (not exceeding 6000 words, cited references to be limited to about 100 in number) are expected to survey and discuss current developments in a field. Review should be well focused and organized, and avoid a general ‘textbook’ style. Review articles will follow the general guidelines of Research Paper.

Perspective Paper

Perspective paper (up to 2500 words with maximum two illustrations) invites reflective discussions on recent contemporary research/on tools and methods/new approaches, but do not primarily discuss the author's own work. They may provide a critical synoptic assessment of a research topic including alternative viewpoints/approaches. Perspectives commenting on papers in JSCIRES should add a dimension to the research and not merely be a summary of the study covered in the paper.

Perspective section will follow the general guidelines of Research papers. Authors may kindly note the other considerations required for publishing in this category. Abstract: An abstract of up to 150 words should appear on the first page. Body of the paper: There is no special need for authors to include a separate section on methodology.

Research – in Progress

Aimed to encourage and promote the participation of students or young researchers. This section aims at reports of important scientific developments relevant to the field of scientometrics research. This section may also carry abstracts of research done by students as part of the project being undertaken or part of ongoing research etc. Opinion pieces from students also can be considered. The length should not be between 1200-1500 words. All the content in this section will be published subject to in-house review. These are limited to a maximum of two figures and one table. They should present a complete study that is more limited in scope than is found in full-length papers. The items of manuscript should include: (1) Abstracts limited to 50 words; (2) have the choice of including Methodology section. However, the article must properly inform about the key methods/ procedures in the introduction; (3) Results and Discussion may be combined into a single section. Research in Progress section will follow the general guidelines of Research papers

Opinion articles relevant to newer developments/issues that would be of significance to present development of the field (between 1200 to 1500 words). Papers addressing development in areas of research that have implications for scientometric studies will be encouraged. Abstract, Keywords and Methodology are not required for publishing in this category. Commentary section will follow the general guidelines of Research papers.

Instructions for Book/databases/Website Reviews
It should be between 750-1,000 words long. However, we welcome review of books/websites on request to be sent to the editor. The reviews should be descriptive and evaluative, designed to make readers aware of new books/ journals / websites in the field, for use as a selection tool

Book Reviews

Purpose of the book--who is the intended audience, and what is the general scope and subject area. Is it designed as a textbook? Is it a handbook, bibliography, guide to the literature? ; Organization--include information about bibliographies, indexes, appendices if available. Any special features should be mentioned; Comparison to other publications on the same subject and within a similar time frame; Authority--any information about the author or editor, and previous works by them if known.

Instructions for Database Review

Layout of Review:

Title of Database or Service ,Publisher’s name and address, name of the reviewer, position, organization, email address, Body of Review, general product description, authority of publication; Scope, content, currency, and intended audience; Bibliographic record format; Search capability: search capability and functionality; Interface: display and navigation, appearance, ease of use, searching options, help screens and output; Search features: basic and advanced search, keyword searching, natural language queries, sorting, pattern matchers, limits, and browsing; Search Results: quality and quantity of records, search history, display of results, and manipulation of search results; Added features: links to full text and URLs, ability to obtain statistics, links to library's OPAC/holdings, thesaurus capability, graphs and image capabilities, and document delivery; Authentication, General limitations; Technical requirements, Suggestions for improvement, Vendor's support, Pricing Options, Contract provisions/options, Comparison with other vendors, Comparison with other databases; Length of review, -- no specific limits but probably within the range of 500-1000 words would be ideal. Feel free to use examples from the text to support your evaluation.

 Instructions for Webliographies

A webliography should be unique or substantially different from prior bibliographies on the topic, and it should be of interest to specific research domains say medical and health science professionals, etc.

Each Webliography should include the following elements: Scope -- Define the subject you are treating. Is the webliography meant to be comprehensive or selective? Are there non-subject aspects (e.g., level, language, format) that are excluded; Methods -- How did you find the resources in the webliography? What criteria for selection did you use; Organization -- Resources should be organized by sub-topic/aspect and format (e.g., journal, monograph, database, discussion list, etc.) as appropriate. Webliographies should include an index to the organizational structure used; Annotations -- Should concisely convey the scope, coverage, quality, and special features of the resource. Annotations should be on the order of 50-100 words, but the length will depend on the nature of the resource; Length -- The number of resources that adequately describe the topic will vary. The absolute number of resources profiled is not as important as whether the topic is well represented by the webliography. On the order of 50 resources may be sufficient, but many more or many less may be appropriate, depending on the topic.

Scientific Correspondence

Welcome comment on research published in JSCIRES and will also include correspondence drawing attention to present academic discourse/issues. As these are meant to express a personal viewpoint, with rare exceptions, preferably should have not more than two authors. Ideally it should be restricted within 500-600 words and are subject to copyediting.

Conference/Meeting Reports

JSCIRES will also cover reports of the conferences and meetings organized by Associations /Societies. The Journal will be interested to consider reports that may be of interest to the readers. These will usually be 500 to 1,500 words in length and must be submitted within six weeks of the date of the meeting or conference.

Webliography: A list of electronic documents, web-sites or other resources available on the world-wide web, especially those related to particular subject.
